End of a (small) era – I no longer work in a studio

Last month, two things happened. 1. I was offered a new studio to work in. It was local to me and I had been there a few times and the current photographer/owner is looking to retire and asked me about taking it over. I said no. At first, I was pretty excited, but, at the time, I had my own studio and after talking for a while, I found it was going to be a lot of hard work. Being self employed for over 25 years, I’m not one to shy away from hard work, but this would have been a lot of hard work. It would have meant more time away from home, much loner hours, for just a little extra money.
I love photography, but I love it, coz I don’t over do it. I think if I was taking photos EVERY single day and editing EVERY single night, I might start to get bored of it…too much of a good thing and all that. So, I said no to the extra work.
But then, 2. My studio was up for renewal and I kind of didn’t need it any more. I can’t remember the last time I was in a studio with an escort, I think it was Feb, I think. I find that girls who want photos done by me don’t want to shoot in a studio, the images aren’t ‘natural’, they are too polished or staged. Since I spend most of my time, traveling to a girl, shooting at her place of work or a hotel, I might as well go fully mobile. So the money I’m saving in rent of the studio I barely use, has been put into other things, more useful to me.

Studio shoot

In other news, I’m off to Manchester tomorrow, I’m pretty much fully booked, but it does give me a chance to have a look around, since I’ve never been to Manchester before.
