Chevy Chase is a comic genius and has created some fantastic characters in the past, like Fletch from 1985, the wisecracking, charming newspaper reporter, based on the books by Gregory McDonald. I don’t think the word ‘iconic’ is too strong.
So here we are in 2022 with a reboot of Fletch, this time starring John Hamm. Here is the trailer.
The plot for the new movie is:
In this delightful comedy romp, Jon Hamm stars as the roguishly charming and endlessly troublesome Fletch, who becomes the prime suspect in a murder case while searching for a stolen art collection. The only way to prove his innocence? Find out which of the long list of suspects is the culprit—from the eccentric art dealer and a missing playboy to a crazy neighbor and Fletch’s Italian girlfriend. Crime, in fact, has never been this disorganized.
This reboot has been written and directed by Greg Mottola, known for Superbad, Paul, and Adventureland, and a few TV episodes of Arrested Development, The Newsroom, and Dave.
Alongside Hamm, Fletch stars John Slattery, Marcia Gay Harden, Kyle MacLachlan, Lorena Izzo, Ayden Mayeri and Annie Mumolo.
According to reports, Confess, Fletch is very close to the original book and has also been given an R rating for ‘language, some sexual content, and drug use’.
Confess, Fletch will be in theatres, digital, and on-demand on 16th September.
