BLADE RUNNER 2049 Series On The Way

Blade Runner 2049 was a modest hit. Not everyone loved it, but it did a good job of looking and feeling like the original. At the end of the day, it did make a little money, so by the rules of Hollywood we have to have more of it.

A new series has been greenlit by Amazon Studios to be set 50 years after Blade Runner 2049, and, at the moment, that’s all we know. The plot is being kept under wraps.

Ridley Scott, director of the original 1982 movie and producer on Blade Runner 2049, will serve as an executive producer. Vernon Saunders from Amazon Studios has said about the project:

“The original Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time, and we’re excited to introduce Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers.

We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

This is the same Amazon that is, at the moment, digging up the bones of JR Tolkien and then blaming “toxic fans” for the fact that the series isn’t doing so well.
