The Eternals is one of the lowest-rated Marvel movies and was generally panned by critics and fans alike. It didn’t really do that well at the box office either, but that’s no reason to not make a sequel.
While the DCEU is having all sorts of trouble, Marvel is still putting out content to keep the last few people who get a semi at the mention of a superhero.
At the San Diego Comic-Con, plans were shown for the MCU Phase 5 and 6. This is weird, since I don’t really remember much happening in Phase 4, it’s not like it had a big finish, or did I miss it?
Patten Oswalt was interviewed by The Today Show recently and said that Eternals 2 is going forward, with Chloe Zhao back in the director’s chair.
“They have announced there is going to be an Eternals sequel and Chloe Zhao is going to direct it. So, hopefully, there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip.”
In the end credits of the Eternals, it did say they would return, but this was before the reviews and box office numbers. Nate Moore, one of the Marvel producers said:
“It’s not something that is a must-have. Obviously, we have ideas of where we could go, but there isn’t a hard and fast rule where we have to have three of these things and this is the first. If you just watch Eternals, you can enjoy Eternals, you can understand Eternals and you’re good to go.”
So even a Marvel producer thinks Eternals 2 is not a “must have” of a movie. Has the bubble on superhero movies finally popped? If so, that’s more bad news for the DCEU.
