Firstly, to clear this up, Super Mario Bros is not contented with Bros the new gay rom-com. That would be a very, very different movie.
Super Mario Bros is the new animation due out based on the series of games from Nintendo and here is the trailer.
I got to admit, it starts well and I did giggle at the penguins, but then Mario himself turned up and it all went downhill from there.
Super Mario Bros stars Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogan, Fred Armisen, and Kevin Michael Richardson.
I’m going to say this, where is the accent??? Mario has been famously voiced by Charles Martinet, who did a mild Italian accent, which made Mario who he was. I guess in this day and age, the accent is offensive, so let’s just not do it.
Pratt has said about the voice of Mario:
“I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear.”
“It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over. I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before.”
“Unlike anything you’re heard before”, coz according to the trailer, Mario sounds exactly like Emmet from The Lego Movie, and Starlord, and Jim Preston from Passengers, and Owen from Jurassic World, and…well, you see where I’m going with that.
Super Mario Bros will be in the cinemas 7th April 2023.
