Firstly, don’t get too excited, Keanu Reeves is playing Batman at the moment, but it’s only as a voice for the animated cartoon DC League of Super-Pets. Although, he has said he would love to play Bats in a live-action version.
He was asked by Extra if he would ever play the Caped Crusader since he’s doing the voice-over in League of Super-Pets. Reeves responded by mentioning Robert Pattinson’s The Batman:
“It’s always been a dream, but [Robert] Pattinson’s got Batman right now and he’s doing awesome, so maybe down the road. Maybe when they need an older Batman.”
Apparently, Reeves had the chance to star as Batman in the 1995 Batman Forever but turned it down, which meant the role eventually went to Val Kilmer. That’s a shame, imagine Reeves as Bruce Wayne.
Reeves is no stranger to comic book movies, there have been constant talks about him returning as John Constantine at some point. There have even been talks about him becoming Wolverine, but that is mostly fan chatter and not valid.
He has been called the ‘nicest guy in Hollywood’ and he seems to be able to pick and choose his roles, so I say let him play Batman if he wants to, just give him a decent script and director to go with it.
