Ti West is all the rage at the moment since his X has had rave reviews from critics and fans, earning a 95% from critics and 75% from fans on Shill Central Rotten Tomatoes.
Then recently, West announced a prequel to X, in the form of Pearl, about the old lady but in her younger years.
Well, there is now a third movie in the X series on the way, in the form of MaXXXine. A24 has confirmed they have greenlit another of West’s movies, again starring Mia Goth. The movie will follow:
Maxine (Goth), after the events of X, as the sole survivor who continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.
West has said about MaXXXine:
“What I can tell you is that we’re going to catch up with Maxine. And we’re going to find out what she’s up to. The way that X is a movie that is informed by and affected by independent exploitation auteur Americana and 1970s cinema, and Pearl is perhaps affected by the Golden Age of Hollywood and the glitz and glamor of cinema, MaXXXine will be more about within the industry itself and the boom of VHS.”
X was a great-looking movie, with a really good sense of style, but as our review by Shawn B said, the fact that the main ‘bad guys’ were two very slow-moving 80-year-olds, just made it lose its edge.
Pearl does look interesting, and by the sounds of it, MaXXXine might be good, but let’s just hope they have a decent story!
