Eragon has already been a movie, but it wasn’t good. It bombed and that was the end of that. The books have a good reputation, so a lot of fans were left disappointed.
Now Disney+ is developing a live-action Eragon TV series with the original author, Christopher Paolini, serving as showrunner and writer. He is looking for somebody to work alongside him as this is his first gig like this. I am not sure you should say something like “It’s my first time” in places like modern Disney, but I guess he’ll learn.
Paolini wrote the fantasy adventure as a teenager and later, when they became best sellers, 20th Century Fox bought the rights. The original movie came out in 2006, was panned by both fans and critics, and instead of generating a franchise it fell flat.
There have been several books in the Eragon series, known as The Inheritance Cycle. Paolini called on fans to push Disney for a remake or series as soon as they acquired Fox. It seems that Disney saw money in it somewhere, so they started development.
Eragon is about a farm boy who finds an egg which then grows into a dragon. He finds that he is part of an ancient order of Dragon Riders and must defeat an evil leader to free their land. I have seen the original movie, but I couldn’t tell you much about it apart from Sienna Guillory being in it.
The original Eragon did have an impressive cast with Jeremy Irons, John Malkovich, Robert Carlyle, Rachel Weisz, and Djimon Honsou all appearing.
There are no details about casting on the series yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as it arrives.
